Eye On Kickstarter #62

Welcome to my Eye on Kickstarter series!  This series will highlight Kickstarter campaigns I am following that have recently launched (or I've recently discovered) because they have caught my interest.  Usually they'll catch my interest because they look like great games that I have either backed or would like to back (unfortunately budget doesn't allow me to back everything I'd like to).  But occasionally the campaigns caught my attention for other reasons.  Twice a month, on the 2nd and 4th Fridays, I'll make a new post in this series, highlighting the campaigns that have caught my attention since the last post.  In each post I'll highlight one campaign that has really grabbed my attention, followed by other campaigns I've backed or am interested in.  I'll also include links to any related reviews or interviews I've done.  Comments are welcome, as are suggestions for new campaigns to check out!

You can also see my full Kickstarter Profile to see what I've backed or my old Eye on Kickstarter page that was too unwieldy to maintain.  Also, check out the 2019 Kickstarter Boardgame Projects geeklist over on Board Game Geek for a list of all the tabletop games of the year.
So, without further ado, here are the projects I'm currently watching as of the fourth Friday of March, 2019:

HIGHLIGHTED CAMPAIGN
Offensive Adult Party Game || by The Dragon's Tomb
  • GJJ Games Backed
  • The Dragon's Tomb does some of the best how to play videos around and now Jeff Kornberg has designed his very own game that reflects his own unique style. Seriously though, the game is actually a joke and the campaign is meant to support Jeff's YouTube channel. Since Jeff is producing some of the best board game humor on the internet though, this is a worthy campaign to back.

Do you love offensive adult party games? Do you get an adrenaline rush when you get to say "edgy" things you wouldn't otherwise say in public? If so, then you're going to love Offensive Adult Party Game by The Dragon's Tomb. Offensive Adult Party Game is a party game for 3+ players that takes under 1 minute to play and is exclusively for people who love offensive party games.

Age of Civilization
  • I love civilization building games, and I love small games, so Age of Civilization hits on both of those, plus it plays in about 30-40 minutes! I haven't backed this one yet, but there's a very good chance I will before the end of the campaign.

Kingdoms Lawn Game
  • It's not very often that you find a lawn game that brings in elements of strategy, but Kingdoms Lawn Game attempts to do just that. This was on Kickstarter a while ago and wasn't successful due to a high pledge cost and funding goal, but now it's partnered with ET Games (Rollet, Pucket, etc.) to help bring down the costs. ET Games is known for making high quality, super fun wooden dexterity games and I'm excited to see them producing Kingdoms Lawn Game!

Jabberwocky
  • I've had lots of fun with the games I've played by Jellybean Games, especially Dracula's Feast. One of their hits from 2017 was The Lady and the Tiger, a game system that contains 18 cards and a handful of tokens. Jabberwocky is a sequel to that title, also featuring a number of games that can be played with just 18 cards and several glass tokens. The artwork is gorgeous and the individual games look interesting and fun.

Trailblazer Game Stamps
  • I don't play RPGs, but I love maps. I've spent hours pouring over all sorts of maps for locations real, imaginary, and of my own creation just for fun. Maps of all kinds are like a peek into another world or location and I find them fascinating. Trailblazer Game Stamps are rubber stamps with various landscapes on them that can be used to quickly create your own great looking maps quickly. This first set includes some of the most common landscape types (mountains, hills, forests, water, etc.), but I think the most fascinating thing with these stamps is the potential for so many more awesome stamps to come! These could be so much fun!

Historical Metal Coins Second Wave
  • I'm on a limited budget for buying new games, so even though there are dozens I'd love to have, I can't afford to buy them all. On top of that, my shelf of shame is way too big, so it's hard to justify buying more games very often. Instead I've been focusing more on purchases that will help me with game design or enhance the gaming experience for the games I already have. A good set of metal coins is something I've been looking at getting to help with both prototype games and as a coin replacement in other games that use coins. These look affordable and it's pretty cool that they're based on historical coins.

Root: The Underworld
  • Root was one of the biggest hits of last year, selling out at Gen Con in just a few days. Now it's back with an expansion and also the opportunity to get the entire game. I love the artwork and the mechanics look like an interesting twist on area control and asymmetrical gameplay.

Flapjacks and Sasquatches: Company Store
  • This is the next expansion in the Flapjacks and Sasquatches lineup. It's not usually my choice in game style (although I'll play anything that hits the table), but a member of my game group is friends with the designers and apparently has his likeness on one of the cards in this expansion. Pretty cool, huh?

Quick Review - Fry Thief by Laid Back Games - Kickstarter Preview
DisclaimerSupport me on Patreon!

Do you like fries (or chips if you're from across the pond)?  Of course you do!  How about salads?  Maybe, but probably not as much as fries.  If you're trying to eat healthy though, then a salad is the way to go, because you can steal fries from your friends, and we all know that food eaten off of someone else's plate doesn't have any calories.  That's a fact* of science!  (*I may not understand the meaning of the word fact.)

If you like to live vicariously through someone else's food you may enjoy Fry Thief, a new, fast playing, asymmetrical card game for two players all about stealing (and eating) fries off of your friend's plate.  The game plays in about 10 minutes and is small enough to carry in your pocket, perfect for getting a few plays in over lunch.

Fry Thief will be available on Kickstarter starting February 5, 2019.  You'll be able to pick up a copy for only $15!
Yummy, yummy fries!
Overview:
In Fry Thief each player takes a plate card and chooses a role.  The fry player starts with all twelve of the fries on their plate and the salad player starts with an empty plate.  The goal of each player is to eat more fries than the other.  The salad player has to steal fries before they can be eaten, though.  Players also have opportunities to dip fries in ketchup to double their points.  When all the fries are gone, whoever has the most points is the winner!
Try to eat as many fries as you can, before your opponent eats theirs!
Fry Thief is super easy to teach and about as easy to play.  Once players decide on their roles and give all the fries to the fry player three cards are dealt to each player.  The salad player goes first and then layer alternate turns from that point on.  On your turn you do three things: 1) Draw a card.  2) Play 1 or more cards OR Draw another card.  3) Draw or discard to your hand size - discard down to four cards if you have more, or draw up to two if you have less than two.  Shuffle the discards any time you need to draw a card and the deck is empty.  That's it!  Easy peasy!

There are only 16 cards in Fry Thief (maybe a few more if some stretch goals are hit).  Some are red cards that can be played by either player and some are split green and yellow cards.  These can also be played by any player, but each player must play the card for the effect on their side of the card.  The salad player gets the green side and the fry player gets yellow.  Most cards have an immediate effect, like Steal 2 Fries, Eat 1.  Some cards remain in play until their effect is triggered, like the Fork, which lets the salad player steal extra fries the next time they play a steal card.
16 cards make up the core of this game.
The salad player has a few more cards that let them steal fries while the fry player has a few more that let them eat fries.  This creates a tug-of-war scenario were fries are constantly moving back and forth, and eventually getting eaten.  Once eaten, fries are placed in a score pile.  A few cards let you add ketchup to a fry.  Sometimes you get to eat the fry right after dipping it, other times the fry remains in play as a more valuable fry that can be stolen back and forth until someone manages to eat it.  Ketchup covered fries are worth two points, so they can let a player catch up (see what I did there?) if they fall behind.  The game is balanced slightly in favor of the fry player, so if there's a tie the salad player gets the win (because they got free food, and free food tastes better).
Fun for all ages!
In addition to the 16 (or more) cards, the game also includes 12 wooden french fries and 6 wooden ketchup discs (maybe upgraded to splats or ketchup bottles as stretch goals).  Each player also has a play mat with a plate on it.  A rules sheet rounds out the components in the base game.  I know Patrick, the designer, is also testing some additional player powers with several characters, and I believe at least four will be in the base game as well (maybe more with stretch goals).  Those are still being tested and balanced at the time of this review.
Ketchup and fries!
Final Thoughts:

I first played Fry Thief as an early prototype at Protospiel Milwaukee in April, 2018.  I thought it was fun, but still needed some work to make the cards interesting and balanced.  I played again at Protospiel Madison in early December 2018 and was pleased to see that the game had matured quite a bit.  The game was much more interesting and tactical, cards were more balanced, and the game had artwork and components that were close to final.  I had quite a bit of fun playing and was fortunate enough to bring a copy home for this review.
A very early version of Fry Thief at Protospiel Milwaukee in April, 2018.
Playing Fry Thief at Protospiel Milwaukee in December 2018 with the designer Patrick Rauland.
After playing about a dozen games, I've found that Fry Thief still holds up.  Right now it feels like it's balanced a bit too much in favor of the fry player (although I've won games playing both roles), however I've been talking with Patrick, the designer, and a few cards are still being tweaked in order to shift the balance a bit more in favor of the salad player.  The salad player really has an uphill battle, having to steal the fries first.  Given the right combination of cards at the start of the game the fry player can eat two or three fries on the first turn.  This removes a good portion of the potential points from the game very early on, making it even harder for the salad player to gain an advantage.  However, a few cards have been changed since I got my copy, tempering the fry player's strength a bit, and giving the salad player a few more opportunities to make bigger plays.  I think this will really keep the game exciting and balanced.
I've won every game I've played so far...  Just saying...  =)
Fry Thief plays in about 10 minutes, and it's pretty small, so you can take it out just about anywhere.  It has a small table presence, so it doesn't take up much room at all.  It's perfect for playing at lunch at your favorite fast food joint or local diner.  I've had a blast playing it, and my sons have even pulled it out to play on their own a few times (something they only occasionally do with my review games).  If you enjoy fast, tactical fillers, Fry Thief will be an excellent addition to your collection.  It's always a blast to play!

Be sure to check out Fry Thief on Kickstarter on February 5.  It's a great game that you can get for only $15!

Preliminary Rating: 7/10

This review is of a prototype game.  Components and rules are not final and are subject to change.

GJJG Game Reviews are independent, unpaid reviews of games I, George Jaros, have played with my family and friends. Some of these games I own, some are owned by friends, some are borrowed, and some are print and play versions of games. Where applicable I will indicate if games have been played with kids or adults or a mix (Family Play). I won't go into extensive detail about how to play the game (there are plenty of other sources for that information and I'll occasionally link to those other sources), but I will give my impressions of the game and how my friends and family reacted to the game. Quick Reviews will only get a single rating of 1-10 (low-high) based on my first impressions of the game during my first few times playing. Hopefully I'll get more chances to play the game and will be able to give it a full review soon.

GTA Sanandreas High Compress Pc Game

GTA San Andreas is an action-adventure game with roleplaying and stealth elements. Similar to the previous two games in the series, the basic structured gameplay includes elements of the third-person shooter and a driving game, from which the player discovers a vast open environment in which to walk. On foot, the player's character is able to deal with arms and various types of hands, as well as running, running, running, swimming, climbing and jumping. The player may use various types of vehicles, including an automobile, a bus, a motorboat, a boat, an airplane, a helicopter, a train, a chariot, a motorcycle, and a bicycle. The player can also import vehicles in addition to the flight.
The open and non-linear environment allows the player to know and choose how he wants to play games. Although scenario missions are essential to progress in games and unlock certain cities and content, they are not mandatory, as players can complete them during their holidays. When not assigned to a scenario assignment, the player may move freely and travel through the cities of San Andreas, eating out or attacking people and causing destruction. Devastation can attract unwanted and potentially deadly attention from those responsible. The reason for more chaos, strong reaction: the police will handle the "minor" violations, while the SWAT teams, the FBI and the military will react to the desired levels.P layers can participate in different types of parallel missions that can enhance character characteristics or provide another source of income. Traditional secondary missions from previous games include, such as unloading taxi passengers, fire-fighting and fighting criminals. All slots are not open to the player at the beginning of the game. Some places, such as the garage, restaurants, gyms and shops are only available after certain missions. If the player has to travel in confined spaces at the beginning of the game, he or she then draws the attention of SWAT teams, police and police-controlled Hydra to a plane.

Unlike Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City, which requires a loading screen when the player moves between different areas of the city, San Andreas has no load time when the player is in transit. In the game, only the loading screen is for cinematic scenes and interiors. Among the other differences between San Andreas and his predecessors, single-player multiplayer missions include swap and spray paint tags, hidden shots, horseshoe replacement and the replacement of the 'hidden package' by oysters. On the basis of green is converted from green to red. The PC version of the game applies the recording to the mouse; The player must grab the right mouse button to activate the crosshair, then click the left mouse button to maintain or use an item such as the camera. The player fires with members of an enemy gang. Apart from this, players can swim for the first time in the series and climb the walls.  The ability to float and dive underwater also has a significant effect on the player as water is no longer an obstacle that kills a player. For maximum firepower, the player can perform Double Wing Firestars or spend with many gang members who can be recruited to follow the player. Due to the shape of San Andreas, a waypoint reticle can be set on the HUD map, which helps the player to reach a destination.
